:: International Folk Dancing Location: Cambridge, MA
We're back! Periodic reminder: We're a fully volunteer organization. Right now, we could use a few more hands with nearly all aspects of Sunday night. Your reward is esprit de corps, appreciation, you name it. More hands make lighter work for everyone, as the saying goes, and we'll be around to help & show you the ropes. Feel free to get in touch about what might be most workable for you. On Sunday night, we do participatory line, circle, and couple dancing for everyone from eastern Europe and the world. You can find general information on MITFDC dance events on the MITFDC web page at http://web.mit.edu/fdc and more about Sunday night at http://web.mit.edu/fdc/www/international.html

:: SELICHOT with Rabbi Ebn Leader Location: Brookline, MA
Greetings! As TBZ will not formally be holding a selihot service this year, the congregation has graciously allowed me the opportunity to invite some friends and lead selichot in the sanctuary, Saturday night, September 4th. The traditional selichot service is mostly a sequence of liturgical poems (piyyutim) on the topic of repentence, structured around the recitation of vidui (a communal confession) and chanting the 13 merciful attributes of God. It functions in the year-cycle as a last call before the High Holidays come, sort of a trailer for Rosh Hashanah in both mood and musical mode. In the service Saturday night I will follow the traditional Ashkenaz service, all Hebrew, though with a lot of singing. As always, you do not have to know the words in order to pray through song. We will be using the traditional Ashkenaz text of Selichot, so I recommend bringing your own from home. For those who want a copy, please e-mail Rav Claudia and she will send to you a PDF file with the Selichot service including an English translation which you can print out and bring with you. It is a copy of the Silverman Machzor - not my favorite translation, but I happen to have it on file. Beginning 11:30PM Will end in close proximity to 1:00AM.
